Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Midland, Texas
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Shift: Evening (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Urgent backfill needed in a Level II or III trauma emergency room.
- Care for both adults and children in a high-volume ER (40+ beds, 200+ visits/day).
- Recent ER travel experience within the past 6-8 months is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an Emergency Department (ED), including experience within the last year.
- Experience working with Level II trauma patients.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications (must have or be willing to obtain if offered):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course).
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 10-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace and all locations lived/worked.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Texas Department of Public Safety criminal history and Employee Misconduct Registry checks within 30 days prior to start.
- Licensure Verification:
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
- Health and Safety:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months of start.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella) with time-sensitive completion within 72 hours of contract signing.
- Flu vaccination or agency declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; additional onsite drug screen upon arrival.
- N95 fit test within 1 year of start (PAPR not accepted).
- Facility-specific documents must be reviewed and signed prior to start, including confidentiality agreements, drug screening consent, TB questionnaire, and compliance checklists.
Competency Requirements
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and age-specific competencies required within 1 year of start.
- NIH Stroke Certification required for all clinical positions.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must provide 2 professional references within 3 years of start.
- Resume or employment application copy required.
- Annual updates required for background checks, certifications, and competency exams as applicable.
This position is ideal for experienced ER RNs with trauma experience seeking a travel contract in Texas with evening shifts in a busy trauma center.
