CVICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Day shift: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: Expected to float within ICU community including CVICU, Med/Surg ICU, and Neuro ICU
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (must be outside 100-mile radius)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Minnesota
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience
  • CVICU experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Clinical Skills & Special Requirements

  • PA catheter interpretation and analysis
  • Open heart recovery experience (direct from OR preferred)
  • Experience with LVAD, RVAD, Impella, and IABP devices
  • CRRT with Prismaflex and ECMO (preferred)
  • Ventilator management
  • Hemodynamic monitoring including PA catheters
  • Targeted Temperature Management
  • Bedside tracheostomies and PEG tubes
  • Endotool for glucose monitoring
  • Temporary pacemakers
  • Familiarity with Heart Mate 2 & 3, Centra Mag, Impella, and balloon pump

Facility & Work Environment

  • Type: Short Term Acute Care
  • Designations: Magnet recognized, Teaching hospital, Level III Trauma center
  • Total Staffed Beds: 672
  • Charting System: Excellian/Epic
  • Uniform Color: Navy Blue
  • Parking: Flat rate of $0.55/hour

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 1 year (7-year statewide MN search required)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 1 year
  • Fingerprinting:
    • Must complete Minnesota DHS Net Study Questionnaire immediately after contract signing
    • In-person fingerprints required prior to start (no starts with fingerprints pending unless approved “more time needed” letter)
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
    • Adult Tdap vaccination required (no declinations accepted without exemption approval)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (TB results must be on file no later than 3 days after start)
    • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer required)
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series proof required
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination series proof required
    • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted)
    • OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start for fit testing
  • Drug Testing: Not required for client clearance but must be within 1 year if completed
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style headshot required within 48 hours of signing contract

Training & Competency

  • Completion of assigned pre-orientation online modules within 72 hours of login (3-9 hours depending on specialty)
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exam required
  • Annual skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Guaranteed hours subject to cancellation of up to 3 shifts without penalty
  • On-call shifts not required
  • Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility-specific onboarding and compliance requirements prior to start

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with advanced cardiovascular critical care skills seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity, Magnet-recognized teaching hospital environment.
