Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Mooresville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Patient Age Group: Adults and Geriatrics
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- On-Call: None required
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Orientation: Biweekly sessions
- Scheduling: Facility reviews block scheduling requests
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 3 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks within 90 days of start, including:
- SSN Trace, County, Alias, Nationwide, Sex Offender, International (if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with specific protocols for positive history)
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years, no exemptions)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive titers, no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low/equivocal)
- Polio vaccine or attestation
- Seasonal Flu vaccine (required annually during flu season; no exemptions)
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually
- Employment Application and 7 years of work history required
- Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Competency Exam: Unit-specific competency exam required
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) administered at orientation (passing score 80%)
Additional Requirements
- Must set up a facility-specific Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
- Completion of online orientation modules prior to start
- Compliance with facility-specific competency checklists (CBOs) within 3 weeks after start
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card may be required; training provided onsite if not held
- Color Blind Testing Online required only for phlebotomists (not applicable here)
Notes
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments at this facility may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file.
- Local candidates within 75 miles may receive a different rate (not included here).
- Facility will review and approve block scheduling requests.
This position offers a structured night shift schedule in a medical surgical unit caring for adult and geriatric patients, requiring experienced RNs with specific certifications and compliance with comprehensive health and background documentation.
