Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Night Shift)

Unit & Shift Details
- Intermediate Care Unit (Telemetry)
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call required
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs
- Locals not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
- Return to office restrictions: 7 days
- Guaranteed hours: 36 hours per week for 3 shifts of 12 hours
Experience & Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only; certs of completion accepted for up to 1 month until official card is issued
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only; certs of completion accepted for up to 1 month
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual update required)
- Other certifications may be required based on unit specifics (refer to unit descriptions)
Licensure
- Active Registered Nurse license for Illinois (pending licenses not accepted)
- Primary source verification required (NURSYS verification for RN licenses)
- Illinois permanent license required to extend assignment
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling not accommodated
- Floating within scope expected
- No scrub color specified beyond navy
- Charting system: EPIC
- Parking: Free
Compliance & Background Checks
- Government-issued ID required (driver’s license if applicable)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required prior to start
- State-specific exclusion and sanction list checks required for Illinois placements
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel; must remain valid throughout assignment
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Tdap vaccine or declination required (expires every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy; yearly TB questionnaire required
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: proof of immunity or vaccination required; no exemptions allowed for certain units (e.g., Neonatal ICU)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - April 1)
- Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory)
Facility-Specific Documents & Training
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Regulatory Compliance Education quiz must be completed annually with a minimum score of 80%
- Orientation modules required for all RNs, completed through online training platform; approximately 16 hours to complete
- Additional unit-specific competencies and skills checklists required annually (e.g., Oncology competency exam if applicable)
References & History
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year)
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
This position offers an opportunity to work in an acute care hospital setting with a supportive team and established protocols. The role requires flexibility for night shifts, weekend coverage, and on-call duties, with a focus on telemetry patient care.
