Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide specialized outpatient oncology nursing care including intravenous medication administration, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and blood products.
- Support Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Hematology patient populations.
- Primary duties: port access with lab collection, central line care and dressing changes, SQ/IM injections (e.g., GCSF, hormonal), phlebotomy if central line access fails, chemotherapy pump disconnect, vaccinations, and EKGs.
- Float as needed within multiple area locations to meet facility needs.
Work Schedule
- Day shift, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (7:30 AM - 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM).
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week.
- No weekend requirement.
- No on-call requirement.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required.
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required prior to start.
- Professional license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel, must remain valid throughout assignment.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (cannot decline in BMT unit).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination (no exemptions in certain units such as Neonatal ICU or BMT).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- Fit mask testing annually (N95 respirators).
- Required facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies.
- Completion of facility orientation modules (approximately 16 hours) through online training platform, required annually.
- Skills checklist specific to oncology/outpatient infusion required within 1 year of start.
- Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year.
Additional Information
- Must be at least 75 miles from the facility to qualify as a travel nurse (locals not accepted).
- Time off requests limited to 2 requests totaling no more than 40 hours during the contract; requests should be submitted at the start of the contract.
- Parking available with monthly fees; no charge for straight night shifts.
- Scrub color: Navy Blue.
- Charting system: EPIC.
- Facility is a Magnet & Teaching Hospital and Level I Trauma Center with 1,266 staffed beds.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity outpatient oncology setting with a focus on specialized patient care and education. Candidates should be prepared for a dynamic role requiring flexibility to float across multiple locations.
