Description
Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Assignment
Location: Twin Falls, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7pm–7am)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend (EOW); nights Fri & Sat as able
Holiday Requirements: May be included in holiday rotation
Scheduling: Schedule made 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling considered but not guaranteed; max 5 shifts in a row per policy
Floating: Primary units are Labor & Delivery (L&D) and Postpartum/Mother-Baby (PP/MB); travelers may float hospital-wide for sitter shifts and are typically first to float
Unit Overview
- 11 L&D rooms that double as triage rooms (typically see 4-5 triage patients/day who go home)
- 2 C-Section OR suites and 2 PACU recovery bays on the floor
- 17 Postpartum beds
- Average 5-6 deliveries per day (150-180 per month)
- Level 3 NICU supporting babies 30+ weeks gestation; babies under 30 weeks stabilized and transferred out
- OB providers in-house weekdays, on-call nights; Neonatologist onsite days, Neonatal APP coverage nights
- CRNA anesthesia coverage 24/7 for OB
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 for treatments and equipment management
- Telemetry techs on unit; RNs not required to interpret strips but should recognize basic and life-threatening rhythms
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) systems: EPIC-CPN, GE Connect
Staffing & Support
- Charge nurse generally does not take patient assignments unless necessary
- Resource nurse assists with triage, deliveries, and staff support
- Certified Surgical Techs (CST) available 24/7
- CNAs assist in PP/MB with vitals, baths, ADLs, blood glucose, and other tasks
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Idaho
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with high-risk patients
- Postpartum experience
- Ability to circulate in C-sections
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification
Patient Ratios (per AWHONN guidelines)
- Intrapartum: 1:1
- Antepartum: 1:1 to 1:3
- Postpartum/Mother-Baby: 1:3 to 1:4
Orientation & Onboarding
- 3 days of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor covering both L&D and PP/MB
Additional Notes
- Nurses will float freely between L&D and PP/MB depending on staffing and census
- Strong collaborative relationships between providers and nursing staff
- Located in Southern Idaho, ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activities and nature
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; maroon scrubs for CNAs
