Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Work in Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Oncology unit with oncology and chemotherapy patient care.
  • Oncology and chemotherapy experience is required.
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam; interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required.
  • Floating required throughout the Oncology department as needed; may be assigned to different units based on need.
  • Patient ratio: 4:1 for all shifts.
  • Average daily census: 30 patients; 32 beds/rooms.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Administration of chemotherapy and blood/blood products.
    • Accessing and managing ports and central lines (including PICC lines).
    • Central line blood draws.
    • Starting and maintaining IVs.
    • Administration of antibiotics and antiemetics.
    • Foley catheter insertion and management.
    • Isolation precautions.
    • Telemetry interpretation and monitoring.
    • Auto stem cell transplants.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • First-time travelers accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology experience within the last year.
  • Acute Electrocardiogram (EKG) exam competency.
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Chemotherapy certification (Chemo Certification or Chemotherapy Certification).
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Proficient in telemetry interpretation.
  • Skilled in accessing and managing ports.
  • Competent in central line blood draws.
  • Experienced in central line/implanted line care.
  • Ability to start and maintain IVs.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (driver’s license for home health not applicable here).
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required.
  • Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination (no exemption for Bone Marrow Transplant unit).
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 – Apr 1).
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually.
  • Facility-specific documents including:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement.
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire.
    • Confidentiality Form.
    • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score).
    • Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code Policies acknowledgment.
    • Orientation modules completion through WorkRamp (approximately 16 hours).
    • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).
  • Vehicle registration form required for day shift workers (not applicable for night shift).

  • Facility is a Magnet & Teaching Hospital and Level I Trauma Center.
  • Charting system: EPIC.
  • Patient care ratio is 4:1.
  • Floating within oncology units is mandatory.
  • Parking is available but not reimbursed; night shift parking is free in employee lots.
  • Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams must be completed within 1 year of start.
