Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Specialty: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Oncology
- Required experience: Minimum 1 year in Oncology/Chemotherapy
- Floating required within the Oncology department as needed
- Patient ratio: 4:1 for all shifts
- Average daily census: 30 patients
- Beds/rooms: 32
- Work schedule: Every other weekend required
- Responsibilities include:
- Administration of chemotherapy and blood/blood products
- Auto stem cell transplants
- Accessing/managing ports and central/implanted lines (including PICC lines)
- Central line blood draws
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Administration of antibiotics and antiemetics
- Foley catheter insertion and management
- Isolation precautions
- Telemetry interpretation and monitoring
- Must pass Relias EKG exam (interpretation/management of dysrhythmias required)
- Will accept first-time travelers
Shift Details
- Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
- Hours per week: 36
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of Oncology experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Oncology chemotherapy certification (Chemo Cert)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) certification
- Experience with accessing and managing ports
- Central line blood draw proficiency
- PICC line care experience
- Foley catheter insertion and management skills
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Missouri
- Oncology experience and chemotherapy certification required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- Chemotherapy certification
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia or equivalent EKG competency exam (must be completed within 1 year of start and updated annually)
- ONS/ONCC certification preferred or required
- Additional certifications as applicable:
- PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI/MAB, NIH Stroke Certification (check unit-specific requirements)

Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- State-specific background checks and registries as applicable
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive drug panel
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) with annual renewal
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (no exemption for Bone Marrow Transplant Unit)
- Negative TB test or equivalent within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination (no exemptions for certain units)
- Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption during flu season
- Required facility-specific documents:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire
- Confidentiality Form
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
- Hepatitis B declination form (facility-specific)
- TB Questionnaire (annual)
- Hand Hygiene and Fingernail Policies acknowledgment
- Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
- Orientation modules (approximately 16 hours, completed via online platform)
Additional Requirements
- Unit-specific competency exams, including Oncology competency exam (annual)
- Skills checklist for Oncology/Outpatient Oncology/Infusion Center within 1 year of start
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded
- Vehicle registration form required for day shift workers
