NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Lees Summit, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Average Daily Census: 6.9 patients
  • Unit Size: 18 rooms, 20 beds
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts (Friday and/or Saturday night) plus 2 Sunday night shifts per 6-week schedule
  • On-call Requirement: Two 12-hour call shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Floating: May float within scope to well baby nursery, attend deliveries on Labor & Delivery, and between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Local candidates not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience
  • NICU experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • Professional license primary source verification (Missouri RN license verifiable via NURSYS)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Annual fit mask (N95) testing required
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (2-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption required; no exemptions allowed for NICU or newborn nursery staff
    • Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - Apr 1)
  • Unit-specific competency exams including dysrhythmia/EKG competency within 12 months of start
  • Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
  • Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
  • Employment application and two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Required facility-specific documents: HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, regulatory compliance education, dress code, hand hygiene, fingernail policy, orientation modules, and others as applicable
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months of start)

Additional Notes

  • Scrub color: Navy blue (provided only for charge nurses and transition/baby catcher nurse)
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Return to work restrictions: No more than 7 days off between shifts
  • Candidates must be able to meet all compliance and credentialing requirements prior to start
  • Floating and on-call duties are mandatory as per schedule

This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with strong neonatal critical care skills who are comfortable working night shifts and weekends, and who meet all certification and compliance requirements.
