Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (Orthopedic Specialty)

Location

  • Portland, Maine

Employment Type

  • Travel assignment
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Schedule

  • 10 or 12-hour shifts
  • Weekend call: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • One overnight trauma call (11 PM – 7 AM) when on specialty team
  • Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
  • Weekend hours: 36 (typically 1:4 weekends, 12-hour shifts)

Position Overview

Seeking a highly skilled RN with advanced experience in complex total joint revisions and orthopedic trauma procedures. The role requires proficiency in first scrubbing multi-vendor cases with minimal guidance and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume surgical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • First scrub complex total joint revision cases using multiple vendor systems (Stryker, DePuy, Smith & Nephew, Zimmer)
  • Operate proficiently with Mako robotic system and Hana table
  • First assist on polytrauma orthopedic cases with minimal supervision
  • Maintain high efficiency standards, including 30-minute room turnovers and supporting a 90% first case on-time start (FCOTS) rate
  • Collaborate with a surgical team across five high-volume orthopedic ORs

Unit Information

  • Operating Room with 26 beds
  • Patient ratio: 1:1
  • Equipment includes Storz, Stryker, Olympus, Intuitive Robot
  • Electronic Medical Record system: Epic

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Maine
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients

Preferred Experience

  • General surgery, GU/GYN, orthopedic trauma, orthopedic joints, neurosurgery, ENT, pediatrics, plastics, dental, endovascular
