Pediatric ER Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Freehold, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Primary assignment in Pediatric Emergency Department (ED) with floating to Adult ED if census is low
  • Hybrid unit caring for both Pediatric ED and Pediatric inpatient patients
  • Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts)
  • Every other weekend required (Saturday/Sunday)
  • Holidays required
  • No on-call duties
  • Dress code: Black pants with child-friendly scrub top or all black

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) experience
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients in both Emergency Room and Inpatient settings
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS certification
  • TNCC certification
  • Advanced Dysrhythmia competency
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted
  • CEUs:
    • 8 Stroke Contact Hours (including NIHSS) and 4 Trauma Contact Hours annually required for ER/ED
  • NIH Stroke Certification required annually for ED

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start covering past 7 years (specific vendor required)
  • Physical exam or "Fit for Work" statement within 12 months of start (including weight, height, blood pressure)
  • 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start (MRO process required)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Positive MMR titer (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) with booster if low titer
    • Positive Varicella titer with booster if low titer
    • Hepatitis B titer preferred; declination allowed
  • Negative TB test (IGRA Quantaferon Gold or TSPOT) within 1 year or 2-step PPD acceptable
  • TB questionnaire required if history of positive TB test
  • COVID-19: Must be fully vaccinated or have approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (declinations not accepted)

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Every other weekend and holidays required
  • Night shift only
  • No floating required (except occasional float to Adult ED if census is low)
  • RTLS badge may be issued with a $37.50 fee if lost or not returned

Documentation & Compliance

  • 2 current references related to position within past 2 years, completed by supervisor/manager
  • Employment application or resume required
  • Skills checklist related to position/unit required
  • Work history verification for past 2 years required (NJ candidates must verify minimum 1 year prior to start)
  • Photo for badge: passport style, shoulders up, no hats/masks/sunglasses, neutral background

Facility-Specific Requirements (Time Sensitive)

  • Completion of email access guidelines, third-party security access, and privacy/confidentiality statements within 48 hours of signing
  • Pass/fail testing acknowledgment for dysrhythmia exams must be signed within 48 hours of confirmation
  • Medical and religious exemption forms for COVID-19 and flu vaccines require facility approval

Preferred Skills

  • Epic charting experience preferred

This position is ideal for experienced Pediatric ED nurses with prior travel assignments who are comfortable working night shifts and meeting comprehensive certification and compliance requirements.
