Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Float
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00–07:30)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Float position covering multiple acute care and telemetry units, including Behavioral Health and Respite.
- Units include Ortho, Neuro-Stroke, Cardiac Telemetry.
- Shift split may require working 8 hours in one area and 4 hours in another; strong time management skills needed.
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
- Must work all scheduled shifts; no scheduling exceptions outside approved requests.
- Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is required.
- Weekend work required every other weekend; flexibility expected.
- Travel pairs are discouraged.
- Locals within the area are accepted.
- Compact nursing license accepted; pending licenses are not accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
- Minimum of 2 years telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year.
- At least one completed travel nursing assignment.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current certifications:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with peripheral nerve catheters, particularly in high-volume orthopedic settings.
- Orthopedics nursing experience.
- Stroke nursing experience.
Orientation & Testing
- Orientation includes pass/fail testing with an 80% passing score required.
- Dysrhythmia competency exam must be completed and passed at least 10 days prior to start.
- Additional modules and testing (medication, stroke education) must be completed before or during orientation.
- Epic electronic health record system used for charting (mandatory).
Special Skills & Requirements
- Proficiency in managing peripheral nerve catheters (high volume on orthopedic floors).
- Ability to work night shifts and float across multiple units.
- Must be able to wear any solid color scrubs; light blue scrubs provided on unit.
- Daily onsite parking available (fees apply).
Background & Health Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start.
- National and state-specific background checks including sex offender and OIG/SAM checks.
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start (not required by facility but required by agency).
- Mask fit test within 12 months of start (specific mask models required).
- Drug screen within 12 months (agency requirement, not facility).
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or declination forms accepted for:
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination)
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination (for tracking purposes)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required.
- Annual stroke education required for all RNs working in neuro and float units.
Documentation & Compliance
- Professional badge photo required.
- Must sign facility-specific job description, license acknowledgment, equipment safety form, health history form, policies and procedures acknowledgment, PCIS agreement, personal data form, and code of conduct acknowledgment.
- WA license complaint clearance required for all using a Washington State license.
- Two professional references required.
- Background packet including personal data form, national background check form, and other required documents must be completed prior to start.
Additional Notes
- No block scheduling accommodations.
- Shuttle service available for offsite parking (weekday use only).
- Facility is Magnet, Teaching, Level I Trauma center with 500 staffed beds.
- Candidates must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with telemetry and acute care float experience who are comfortable working night shifts and managing complex cardiac patients.
