ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night, 4 shifts of 12 hours each (18:00 - 6:30)
- Hours per Week: 48 hours
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Unit: 14-bed ICU with open heart program, neurosurgery, stroke unit, level 2 trauma, ECMO stabilize and ship, STEMI, manual proning, sepsis care, IABP, CRRT, UST and RRT teams
- Facility Type: Short-Term Acute Care
- Charting System: Cerner
- Parking: Free
- Scrub Color: Red top, black bottoms
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including ICU experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Job Expectations
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required
- Open to block scheduling (to be discussed)
- Guaranteed hours vary by shift pattern:
- 3x12 hr shifts = 36 hours/week
- 4x12 hr shifts = 48 hours/week
- 8 and 10 hr shifts also available totaling 40 hours/week
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Must include 7 years of residence/work history
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education verification required for new travelers
- International search if lived/worked outside US in last 7 years
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication test/pharmacology exam required
- Unit competency exam required
- Color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Employment Application: Must be current with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months and annually thereafter
Additional Notes
- Indiana RN travelers will not be allowed to work at this facility effective 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including Endoscopy, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport required (clear copy)
- Facility-specific compliance and orientation documents must be completed prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with prior travel contract experience who hold an active Indiana RN license and required certifications, and who are comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity ICU setting.
