Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on Med/Surg Telemetry unit with potential to float to units J1-2, J33, and Emergency Department caring for the same patient population.
  • Rotating shifts: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:30 PM and 7:00 PM–7:30 AM). Shift rotation may be required to meet hospital operational needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • No block scheduling for 48-hour contracts.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Telemetry nursing experience, with Telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Orientation and Testing

  • Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) are required at orientation with minimum passing scores (SafeMedicate 90%, ECG 80%).
  • Prep materials provided before first attempt; remediation and retake opportunities available if needed.
  • Not required for legacy candidates or agency flips with less than 6 months gap between contracts at this facility.

Licensure and Background Checks

  • Background check required prior to assignment start; must be updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually; must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Primary source verification of RN license required within 30 days of start.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions. Latex allergy notification required if applicable.
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months of start and updated annually. PAPRs not provided for facial hair failure unless approved exemption submitted.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive TB
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions must be approved)
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
  • Two professional references required from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Photo for badge may be required.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for variable shifts and floating as needed.
  • Facility prioritizes operational needs but will attempt to honor shift preferences.
  • Fingerprinting and background checks are critical and must be completed timely to avoid delays.
  • Orientation includes mandatory competency testing and certification verification.
  • Candidates with gaps longer than 6 months since last assignment at this facility may need to retake orientation modules and exams.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs with recent specialty experience and valid Ohio licensure seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity hospital setting with rotating 12-hour shifts.
