Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Registered Nurse)

Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide care in Labor and Delivery settings.
  • Experience with Pediatrics and Couplet Care preferred.
  • High Flow Oxygen Delivery experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in Obstetrics (OB) is a plus.
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required.

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri, permanent license required (no temporary licenses accepted).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC accepted.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA only.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification may be required (verify during qualification).
  • National Tech Certification verification required within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year required.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association.

Background & Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including aliases.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 60 days of start.
  • Education verification of highest degree required.
  • Missouri State mandated EDL search required within 60 days of start.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Mask fit test within 12 months of start (specific mask models required).
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; if positive, clear chest x-ray within 5 years and TB questionnaire within 1 year.
  • Annual TB questionnaire required regardless of TB status.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required if working in NICU or Family Birthplace (within 10 years).
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (September 1 – March 31), with deadline October 31; exemptions allowed with documentation.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • EPIC Pass/Fail testing administered onsite; two attempts allowed.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Color blindness test (online acceptable).
  • Other competency exams as applicable to specialty.

Documentation & Other Requirements

  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge.
  • Completion of facility-specific e-learning modules prior to start (New Colleague External Traveler module mandatory before starting).
  • Two professional references required.
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required.

This position offers a focused Labor and Delivery nursing role on night shifts with a comprehensive credentialing and compliance process to ensure readiness and safety.
