Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse
Location: Northfield, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48
Job Summary
- Provide direct professional nursing care for maternal and newborn patients using nursing knowledge and critical thinking.
- Perform patient assessments, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate patient responses.
- Deliver age-specific and developmentally appropriate care for neonate, adolescent, and adult patients.
- Administer medications, start IV fluids and blood products, and perform technical nursing skills such as IV venipuncture, restraint application, and sterile dressings.
- Supervise and delegate support personnel as needed.
- Provide patient and family education based on diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment following facility policies and nursing standards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Minnesota.
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Certification in Basic Electronic Fetal Monitoring.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 to 5 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience.
- STABLE certification preferred.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Emergency contact form completed prior to start.
- Background checks including SS Trace, County searches (last 7 years), Nationwide, and Sex Offender registry within 1 year of start; updated annually.
- Annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Minnesota DHS NetStudy Fingerprint clearance required before start; candidates must complete the MN DHS Net Study Questionnaire immediately after signing contract and complete fingerprinting within 2 weeks of registration.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (approved mask models only).
- Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; annual TB questionnaire.
- Immunization or titer proof for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination during flu season (October 1 – March 31).
- COVID-19 vaccination required or approved religious/medical exemption.
- Facility-specific photo for badge prior to start.
Additional Requirements
- Must demonstrate understanding and adherence to compliance and ethics programs, including code of conduct and required training.
- Must provide 2 professional references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years).
- Annual skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exam required.
