Job Opportunity: Endoscopy Registered Nurse

Location: Potsdam, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: GI/Endoscopy Registered Nurse
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Day shift, 5x8 hours)
  • Call Requirements: Some weekend call and one night of call every 7-12 days
  • Work Setting: Inpatient and outpatient endoscopy center
  • Scrubs: Provided

Required Skills & Procedures

  • Experience with balloon dilators, bronchoscopy supplies, electrosurgical units, fluoroscopy equipment (C-arm), forceps, foreign body equipment, polyp snares, and washer/sterilizer
  • Assist with biopsies and procedure setup
  • Handling bronchoscopes, colonoscopes, EGD scopes, endobronchial ultrasound scopes (EBUS), endoscopic ultrasound scopes (EUS), and flex sigmoidoscopes
  • High-Level Disinfection (HLD) and sterilization/disinfection processes
  • Closing procedure rooms and restocking supplies
  • Specimen handling including bronchoscopy, cytology, frozen sections, gastric brushing, pathology specimens
  • Procedures including colonoscopy, dilations (CRE balloon), EGD, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and esophageal foreign body removal
  • Infection control and universal protocol (time out) procedures
  • Use of Provation software

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
  • Minimum 1 year of endoscopy experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted (required for all clinicians)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted (required for all clinicians except some specialties; preferred here)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • 7-year criminal background check including all aliases and multiple registry checks (National, State, County, Social Security, Sex Offender Registry)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification from the registrar’s office (transcripts/diplomas not accepted)
  • State license verification (New York) within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Harassment prevention training certificate (New York, annual)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required by profession
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam
  • Color blindness testing (one-time)
  • Competency exam within 1 year of start
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Facility-specific policy reviews (patient confidentiality, sexual harassment prevention, patient experience training, flu exemption forms if applicable)
  • Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
  • Attestations for pre-employment compliance and health records

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask types required; PAPR exemption available if fit test failed)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years (TD alone not accepted)
  • Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year; if positive, negative chest X-ray within 10 years plus annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer, vaccination series, or documented history)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (documentation deadline December 3)
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (specific panels required; instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)

Additional Requirements

  • 7-year work history verification (attestation letter accepted as last resort)
  • Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
  • Two professional references required
