Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Work in the Cardiac Procedure Center, Prep Recovery Area.
- 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week (Monday through Friday).
- Shift hours: 06:00–18:30, including one late close shift (08:00–20:30) per week.
- No weekends or holidays required.
- Call shifts may be required 1-2 times per week/weekend, subject to unit needs.
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients.
- Floating within scope of practice may be required to meet facility needs.
- Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility (locals not accepted).
- Pending license accepted.
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Care for pre- and post-procedure cardiac cath, TEE, electrophysiology (EP), and peripheral vascular patients.
- Proficient in cardiac catheterizations, stent placement, electrophysiology procedures, and vascular procedures.
- Experience in prepping and recovering patients in the cardiac procedure center.
- Skilled in sheath removal and use of TR band.
- Cardiac telemetry monitoring including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Post-cardiac angiogram care.
- Accessing ports, blood product administration, phlebotomy.
- Peripheral line care and PICC line management.
- Starting IVs and managing heparin protocols.
- Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (titration allowed for cardiac drips, no titration for vasoactive drips).
- Oxygen delivery via nasal cannula, face masks, and portable oxygen tanks.
- Adherence to isolation precautions.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri (pending license accepted).
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Cardiac Cath Lab nursing within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required.
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start.
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri).
- Drug testing within 1 year, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually.
- Immunization and health screening:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years).
- Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (09/30 - 04/01).
- Required facility-specific documents: HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and orientation modules completion.
- Unit-specific competency exams including dysrhythmia/EKG competency (updated annually).
- Skills checklist specific to the unit required within 1 year of start.
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred).
Additional Information
- Scrubs provided.
- Charting done in EPIC.
- Parking available with monthly passes (fees apply; varies by location and shift).
- Candidates must comply with all facility policies and complete required training modules prior to start.
This position offers a focused cardiac procedural nursing experience in a high-acuity, short-term acute care setting with structured shifts and comprehensive support for travel nurses.
