ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float position covering all ICU and PCU units; must be comfortable working across these areas.
- Night shift schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM). Option for 4 shifts per week by request.
- Staffing needs re-evaluated every 4 hours; floating 2-3 times per shift possible.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block.
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract.
- Charting system: EPIC experience required.
- Accepts first-time travelers and local candidates within radius rules.
- Pending license accepted only if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN license required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia.
- Minimum of 1 year ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year.
- Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS issued by the American Heart Association, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Clinical skills including:
- Central/PICC line care.
- BiPAP and CPAP management.
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
- Adherence to IV insulin protocols.
- Experience with EPIC electronic charting system.
Unit Details
- PCU nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 1:5
- ICU nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 1:2
Additional Requirements & Information
- Must provide a valid Driver’s License/State ID within 48 hours of signing; address must comply with radius rules (within 100 miles of facility).
- Background check: 7-year history required within 1 year of start date; must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
- E-Verify or attestation required.
- Education verification of highest earned degree required; transcript or diploma may be requested.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
- Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Two clinical references required.
- Complete employment application/resume and annual skills checklist.
- Must complete facility-specific compliance, confidentiality, and orientation paperwork prior to start.
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
- All scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) must be submitted with application.
