Registered Nurse – Telemetry/Surgical Floor

Location: Onancock, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Unit: 36-bed telemetry/surgical floor

Job Overview

• Provide nursing care on a telemetry and surgical floor.
• Utilize EPIC electronic health record system.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg and Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required.
• Valid and current driver’s license required for all Home Health & Hospice positions (not applicable here).
• Background check: 7-year criminal history check within one year of start, updated annually.
• Drug screen within the last 12 months.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the last 12 months; if positive TB history, additional clearance required.
• Immunizations/vaccinations required or documented exemption for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (10/1–3/31) with strict deadlines; medical or religious exemptions accepted with approval.
  • COVID vaccine series preferred but not mandatory; declination form accepted.

Orientation & Competency

• Must complete facility-specific orientation including pass/fail testing (e.g., EKG, medication competency).
• Medication and pharmacology competency exams required within one year of start.
• Annual stroke education CEUs required, with hours depending on unit:

  • Med Surg: 1 hour
  • Telemetry: 6 hours (all Tele specialties require ACLS and stroke education)
• Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing and safety manuals required.

Facility Policies & Agreements

• Confidentiality agreement, dress code, scrub color policy, drug-free policy, and safety brochures must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
• Photo for badge must meet specific professional standards (recent, clear, neutral background, no hats/headphones, etc.).

References & History

• Two professional references required.
• Application/resume required.

Additional Notes

• EPIC experience is required.
• Locals are allowed to apply at the same rate.
• Night shift only, 36 hours per week (3x12 hour shifts).
• No prior travel experience required.
