Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse

Location: Onancock, Virginia

Job Description

• Work in an infusion suite with 8 chairs and 2 private bedrooms
• Administer chemotherapy, immune/biotherapies, blood products, antibiotics, infusions, and injections
• Expected nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• Utilize EPIC/Beacon EMR system

Shift Details

• Day shift
• 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
• 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of 1 year oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA, ARC, Military, or American Safety & Health Institute; online CPR not accepted)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification may be required depending on unit
• Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam within one year of start date
• Pass/fail testing (e.g., EKG/medication) as part of orientation
• Annual CEUs for stroke education required, with hours depending on unit assignment
• Valid government-issued photo ID and current driver’s license required

Experience

• Minimum years of experience: Not explicitly stated; Oncology certification preferred
• Prior travel experience: Not required

Compliance and Background Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, updated annually
• Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check fingerprint results may be required
• Drug screen within the last 12 months (specific drug panels required)
• Physical exam within the last 12 months
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the last 12 months; if positive, clearance letter required
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31) unless approved medical or religious exemption
• COVID vaccine series preferred; declination form accepted if no vaccine records

Documentation and Facility Requirements

• Recent professional photo for badge (taken within last 6 months, work-appropriate attire, neutral background)
• Signed confidentiality agreement, scrub color policy, safety brochure, dress code policy, drug-free policy, and hand washing hygiene policy prior to start
• Completion of facility-specific safety and orientation materials
• Two professional references required
• Employment application/resume required
• Annual skills checklist update

• Orientation includes computer-based learning modules with multiple attempts allowed for passing
• Driving record required only for Home Health & Hospice positions (not applicable here)
• Fingerprinting requirements changing as of 7/15/2025; check if applicable for behavioral health placements
