Job Opportunity: Pediatric Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide pediatric infusion nursing care focused on patients with various childhood cancers and sickle cell disease.
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:3.
  • Float assignments include Pediatrics, Adolescent units, and PICU Stepdown.
  • No block scheduling; every other weekend and holiday required.
  • Accepts first-time travel nurses and local candidates.
  • Work setting includes inpatient and outpatient environments.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Valid RN license in New Jersey
  • Pediatric Hematology/Oncology nursing experience (minimum 2 years), including experience within the last year
  • Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Proficient with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • IV Certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license required within 48 hours of contract signing.
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
  • Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches. No open cases allowed.
  • Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
  • Negative TB screening (blood or skin test) within 3 months of start; additional clearance if history of positive TB.
  • Immunization or immunity documentation for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccine compliance)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (declinations not accepted)
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
  • Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start; must be updated annually.
  • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use.
  • Color vision testing within 1 year if job tasks require color discrimination.
  • Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam, dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam, IV therapy/infusion exam, and pediatric-specific competency exams within 72 hours of signing contract.
  • Pass/fail testing for pharmacology and EKG with remediation policy (max 3 attempts).

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific floating policy acknowledgment for each assignment.
  • Must complete annual education sign-off and safety training (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
  • Must complete facility-required orientation videos and attestations prior to start.
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification not required for this role.
  • NIH Stroke Certification not required for this role.
  • Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) certification not required for this role.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each.
  • Floating to related pediatric and stepdown units as needed.
  • Patient population includes all types of childhood cancers and sickle cell patients.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
  • Locals are also eligible to apply.
  • No block scheduling; schedule includes every other weekend and holidays.
