Job Opportunity: Stepdown Neuro Registered Nurse

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a Stepdown Neuro unit providing specialized nursing care.
  • Night shift position with 12-hour shifts.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes passing an ECG rhythm recognition test and a SafeMedicate medication administration exam.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Licensure & Certifications

  • Primary source verification of RN license required within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
  • Certifications expiring within 30 days of start must be renewed prior to assignment.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95 3M 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Mumps (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (required annually; no declinations accepted)
  • Tuberculosis screening:
    • Negative 2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT within 12 months, updated annually
    • If past positive, chest X-ray within 5 years plus annual TB questionnaire signed by provider
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.

Background & Compliance

  • Background check required prior to start, including a 7-year FCRA-compliant search. Must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
  • Resume/CV with 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years clinical acute care experience in a similar area.
  • Two professional references from within the last year required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Additional Notes

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience preferred but not required.
  • Candidates with a gap of less than 6 months since their last assignment at this facility may be exempt from some orientation testing and module requirements.
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all onboarding and compliance requirements promptly to avoid delays.

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Stepdown RNs with current Ohio licensure seeking a travel contract night shift role.
