Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Job Summary

• Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement patient care plans aimed at returning patients to optimal health.
• Provide bedside nursing care and carry out medical orders.
• Delegate and oversee functions of Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, OB Care Associates, Surgical Service Assistants, Nursing Clerks, and Psychiatric Technicians.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans.
• Serve in a leadership role by integrating evidence-based knowledge into practice, coordinating nursing care assignments, and facilitating patient conferences.
• Identify and address patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs.
• Participate in discharge/transfer planning conferences.
• Engage in professional growth through educational opportunities.
• Teach, guide, precept, and mentor new employees and students.
• Function as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.
• Communicate relevant information clearly and effectively.
• Demonstrate strong organizational and planning skills.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
• Minimum 2 years of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience in Emergency Department (ED) nursing
• Experience in Step-down unit nursing

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications such as TCAR, TNCC, CCRN, SCRN.
• Neurosurgical experience.
• Open heart experience.
• Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not required.

Work Environment & Additional Details

• ICU nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2, or 1:1 for special populations.
• Step-down unit ratio: 1:4.
• Emergency Department ratios align with ICU when caring for holds.
• Dress code: Navy blue.
• Electronic Medical Record system: Cerner.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a busy acute care setting with a focus on cardiovascular and neuroscience services. The role requires strong clinical skills, leadership, and flexibility to float between units.
