Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Arlington, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Unit: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
- Schedule: Nights, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 3 shifts per week (3x12-hour shifts)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Population: High-risk OB patients >20 weeks gestation
- Facility Features:
- 16 labor rooms, 6 triage rooms, 6 antepartum rooms, 3 ORs
- Level 3 NICU
- Teaching facility with resident coverage
- Common cases include preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, PPROM, multiples, fetal anomalies, cardiac defects
- OR team handles scheduled and add-on C-sections during the day
- 24/7 in-house anesthesia coverage
- External cephalic versions performed during the day
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
- Average daily census: 15 patients
- No call required
- Self-scheduling
- Medication management via Omnicell
- Documentation systems: EPIC and OBTV
- Communication method: SBAR
- Scrubs provided
- EPIC training: Stork/OB module required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Vaccination and Health Requirements
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless approved medical or religious exemption is provided
- Adult TDAP vaccine required
- Negative TB test (PPD, T-spot, or Q-Gold) within 1 year of start; annual TB questionnaire required
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Fit mask test within last 12 months required (specific mask brands accepted)
- Negative 11-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Pre-employment physical exam within 1 year, attesting ability to meet physical demands
Onboarding and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
- Background checks: 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification
- Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Completion of facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, code of ethics, dress code, parking forms, and safety manuals prior to start
- Completion of online and/or onsite EPIC training modules as required
- Candidate must wear both agency and facility badges at all times
- Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exams and other required competency assessments
- Annual core training parts I, II, and III required
- Candidate must complete facility’s Vendor Access Request (VAR) and background check through HireRight prior to start
Additional Information
- First-time travel nurses are accepted
- No prior travel experience required
- Radiation badge and attestation not applicable for this role
- Candidate must comply with all facility policies and complete all required documentation before starting assignment
