Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) - Nights
  • Shift Options: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts accepted
  • Shift Hours: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Patient Ratios:
    • ICU shifts: 1:1
    • Telemetry shifts: 2:1
  • Weekly Hours: Approximately 36 to 48 hours depending on shift pattern
  • Floating: Required to float within cardiac service line units as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week period, alternating weekends
  • Holiday Work: Travelers required to work holidays as necessary

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) nursing experience
  • Experience with hemodynamics and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Prefer experience with cardiac assistive devices and EPIC electronic health record system
  • Skilled in care of cardio-thoracic surgery and open heart patients, including TAVR, post cath lab, and post cardiac surgery patients with telemetry
  • Trained in Post-Op cardiac care

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all nurses)
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit specifics (e.g., MAB or CPI if applicable)

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirator) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (required every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Sept-April)
  • Required facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies
  • Completion of regulatory compliance education and orientation modules prior to start

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with hemodynamics and ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Trained in Post-Operative cardiac care
  • Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) nursing experience

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete a unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Employment application must be submitted and approved
  • Must be willing to work within a 75-mile local radius rule (locals not accepted)
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: 7 days
  • No on-call required
