Cath Lab Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Wilmington, North Carolina


Job Details

  • Position: Cath Lab Registered Nurse
  • Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:30 AM - 6:00 PM)
  • Call: 1 night per week
  • Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend every other month
  • Float Requirement: As needed
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduled
  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Provided

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty
  • Prior travel experience not required
  • Clinical skills include:
    • Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab procedures
    • Cardiac stent placement, diagnostic catheterizations (adult)
    • IABP placement/removal, Impella insertion
    • Left and right heart catheterization
    • Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)
    • Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring
    • Rotablator atherectomy
    • Scrub procedures in Cardiac Cath Lab
    • Administration and monitoring of procedural sedation
    • Use of emergency medications, IV vasopressors, thrombolytics
    • Cardioversion and dysrhythmia management
    • Infection prevention and isolation precautions
    • Sheath removal and topical hemostasis techniques
    • IV infusion pumps, starting and maintaining IVs
    • Activated Clotting Time (ACT) monitoring
    • End-tidal CO2 monitoring
    • Circulate procedures

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience with:
    • Pre/post procedure care
    • Special procedures such as ASD closures, TAVR, valvuloplasty, Watchman procedure
    • Angioplasty, carotid stenting
    • Central venous access (non-tunneled/PICC and port placement)
    • Dialysis graft creation, revision, and interventional procedures
    • Endovascular interventions and vascular scrub procedures
    • Stent graft placement, SVC/IVC venography
    • Thoracic aortography, upper and lower extremity angiography
    • Use of external compression devices (C-Clamp, sandbags)
    • Hypothermia and malignant hyperthermia protocols
    • Obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG
    • Radiation and laser safety
    • Vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)
    • Laser-assisted procedures

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Technology & Systems

  • Medication and documentation systems: Pyxis, MAC LAB, CUPID, EPIC
  • Communication method: SBAR

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background checks required within 90 days of start, including:
    • Local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search
    • Education verification for highest degree earned specific to nursing
  • Drug screening required within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (if applicable) within 1 year
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (2 vaccines or titer with boosters if needed)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or facility-specific declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training prior to start
  • Completion of medication safety training with certificate of completion

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Confidentiality agreement, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, hospital policies acknowledgment
  • Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for North Carolina travel candidates)
  • Company phone agreement and badge photo submission required prior to start
  • Radiation badge required for Cath Lab staff
  • Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must pass with 82% or higher within 72 hours of start)
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year prior to start
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel acute care nurses
  • Employment application upload required

Orientation & Onboarding Notes

  • Interview with manager required before offer
  • Badge photo must be passport style on white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses
  • Candidates must complete online education modules prior to start; modules may take 8-10 hours
  • Candidates must complete Corp ID and I-Learn account setup within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Flu exemption requests require medical or religious documentation and must be submitted by specified deadlines

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Proficient in cardiac stent placement and diagnostic catheterizations (adult)
  • Skilled in IABP placement and removal
  • Experienced with Impella insertion
  • Competent in interventional catheterizations
  • Knowledgeable in left and right heart catheterization procedures
  • Experienced in Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)
  • Skilled in pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring
  • Proficient in rotablator atherectomy procedures
