Travel Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Trauma)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- Weekly Hours: 48 hours
- Patient Ratios: 1:4-6
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float: Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days off per 13-week contract; missed shifts should be made up ASAP if able
Required Experience & Skills
- Years of Experience: Minimum 5 years as a Registered Nurse in Medical Surgical/Trauma
- Trauma Experience: Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Required Certifications:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Competency Exam: Must pass Relias Basic Dysrhythmia (EKG) exam; interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
- Clinical Skills:
- Med/Surg nursing
- Blood product administration
- Peripheral line care/management
- Phlebotomy and IV starts
- Insulin administration
- PCA management
- Care for spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma
- Management of peripheral nerve block catheters
- Total joint replacements
- Surgical drains and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- Respiratory support: CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
- Oral suctioning
- Isolation precautions
- Wound care including Wound Vac
- Patient Diagnoses: Patients admitted from Emergency Department, Operating Room, or ICU
- Patient Population: Geriatric trauma (55+), trauma from abuse/violence, motor vehicle accidents, falls, acute care surgery (appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, TBI)
- Special Equipment: Lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, external fixators
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
- BCLS and ACLS certifications (AHA only)
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia exam (or equivalent) within 1 year of start, updated annually
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- State-specific background checks and registries as applicable
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including comprehensive drug panel
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Sept 30 – Apr 1)
- Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) annually, with facial hair restrictions
- Facility-specific documents including:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire
- Confidentiality Form
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
- Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code Policies
- Orientation modules (approx. 16 hours, completed via online platform)
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Vehicle registration form required for day shift workers (not applicable for night shift)
References & History
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
- Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for contract clearance

Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 5 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
