Travel Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Trauma)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical with Trauma focus
- Shift: Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Guaranteed hours: Yes
- Patient ratios: 1 nurse to 4-6 patients
- Patient population includes trauma patients from Emergency Department, Operating Room, or ICU
- Trauma patient types: geriatric trauma (55+ years), abuse/violence victims, motor vehicle accidents, falls
- Acute care surgery cases: appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, traumatic brain injury
- Unit services include care for spinal cord injuries, orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, and more
- Level 1 Trauma Center, Magnet & Teaching Hospital environment
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- Professional license primary source verification required (Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Facility-specific documents required prior to start:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire
- Confidentiality Form
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
- Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
- Fingernail Policy acknowledgment
- Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
- Orientation modules (approximately 16 hours, completed via online platform)
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Vehicle registration form if working day shifts (not applicable for night shift)
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred, within last year if possible)
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
- Competency exams:
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia exam accepted)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Unit-specific competency exams may be required (e.g., oncology for Med Surg-Oncology unit)
- No prior travel experience explicitly required

Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to work every other weekend and float within their scope as needed
- Must be able to pass all required competency exams and maintain certifications throughout assignment
