Registered Nurse - PCU/MI (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lees Summit, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit / Medical Intermediate (PCU/MI) with telemetry monitoring
  • Facility Type: Community Hospital with 240 staffed beds, including a 16-bed ICU
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Parking: Free
  • Scrub Color: Navy
  • Floating: Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • Holiday and Charge RN shifts: Assigned as needed
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted; home must be at least 75 miles from facility
  • On-call: Not required
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts over 13 weeks
  • Special Patient Population: Post-cardiac catheterization patients

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start
  • Fit Mask (N95): Annual fit testing required; must be able to shave facial hair if needed
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (2-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer, vaccination, or declination required; no exemptions allowed for certain units (e.g., Neonatal ICU)
    • Hepatitis B declination required (vaccine not mandatory)
  • Drug Testing: Within 1 year of start; must include specific drug panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (Sept 30 - April 1) or approved medical/religious exemption

Facility Compliance and Documentation

  • Photo for Badge: Recent headshot (within 6 months), white background, no obstructions
  • Facility-Specific Documents:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement (updated annually)
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire (updated annually)
    • Confidentiality Form (updated annually)
    • Regulatory Compliance Education and Quiz (annual completion, 80% passing score)
    • Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
    • Fingernail Policy acknowledgment
    • Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
    • Orientation Modules (approx. 16 hours, required for all RNs)
  • State-Specific Requirements: Missouri Family Care Safety Registry and Highway Patrol checks as applicable

Additional Notes

  • No pending licenses accepted
  • No prior travel experience required
  • Floating and holiday shifts may be assigned as needed
  • Must meet all background, health, and competency requirements prior to start
  • Candidates must be at least 75 miles away from the facility to qualify as travel

This position offers an opportunity to work in a telemetry PCU/MI unit with a supportive team environment, caring for post-cardiac cath patients in a community hospital setting. Night shift nurses with telemetry skills and at least one year of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
