ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
  • Shift: Day shift, four 10-hour shifts per week (07:00 - 17:30)
  • Weekend Requirement: Typically 1 Saturday every 5-6 weeks (07:30 - 16:00)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from offer, depending on compliance tier
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted; home address must be at least 75 miles from facility
  • Floating: No floating required
  • On-call: Not required

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
  • Cardiac step-down experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Job Responsibilities & Special Requirements

  • Perform a variety of cardiac testing and administer echocardiogram image enhancement contrast for cardiac sonographers
  • Work in fast-paced inpatient and outpatient cardiac diagnostic lab settings
  • Participate in a fair rotation of pre/post holiday coverage
  • Facility is closed on Sundays and major holidays

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks & Verifications

  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable
  • Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab assignments

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS and BLS certifications must be current and on file before start
  • Unit-specific competency exams, including medication and dysrhythmia/EKG competency, required and must be updated annually
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., Trauma Nursing Core Course for extended Burn ICU assignments)

Health & Immunization

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Tdap vaccine or declination required (expires every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (two negative PPDs or equivalent)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination required; some units do not allow declinations
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel, must be current throughout assignment
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)

Facility-Specific Documents

  • HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy, and Regulatory Compliance Education must be completed and updated annually
  • Orientation modules required for all RNs, completed through online training platform before start
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months of start)
  • Vehicle registration form required for day shift workers

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year)
  • Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start; oncology experience required for Med Surg-Oncology unit
  • Missouri nursing licenses must be verified through NURSYS; proof of IV certification required for LPNs/LVNs with Missouri licenses

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with cardiac experience seeking a 16-week travel contract in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment. First-time travelers are not accepted.
