Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Shakopee, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: ICU with SCU/ED Float responsibilities
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1900-0730)
- Average Daily Census: 5 patients; 8 rooms, 10 beds
- Floating: Will float within scope to other units as needed, specifically Emergency Department (ED)
- Weekend Requirement: Up to every other weekend
- On-call: May be placed on call as needed
- Block Scheduling: Not available; scheduler will accommodate as best as possible
- Locals: Not accepted within 100-mile radius
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Minnesota (pending licenses accepted)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience within the last year
- Required cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills including:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with thermoregulation protocols (hypothermia/hyperthermia) including hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun
- IV insulin protocol experience
- GI surgery experience
- Experience managing chronic and acute renal failure
- IV therapy skills including:
- PICC line management
- Medication administration skills including:
- Continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade
- Procedural sedation administration
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Neurological case management including:
- External ventricular drains (EVD)
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only; RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only; RQI acceptable
- CCRN preferred but not required
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Minnesota
- Pending licenses accepted
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 1 year required (7-year standard MN statewide search)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year
- MN DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start; candidates cannot start with fingerprints pending unless a “more time needed” letter is provided
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap (no declinations accepted without approved exemption; exemptions restrict patient care areas)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (or acceptable history documentation)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no exemptions accepted)
- Hepatitis B: positive titer, proof of series, or signed declination required
- Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no exemptions accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted)
- OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start for fit testing
- Drug testing not required for client clearance but must be within 1 year if completed

- Acute Care Hospital, Level 3 Trauma Center
- Total staffed beds: 63
- Charting system: Epic (Excellian)
- Parking: Free in any unrestricted space
- Scrub color: Navy
Additional Notes
- Guaranteed hours subject to cancellation up to 3 shifts without penalty; on-call hours do not count toward guaranteed minimum
- Photo for badge must be passport style, forward facing, shoulders up, on plain background, submitted within 48 hours of signing
- Preorientation online modules must be completed within 72 hours of receiving login; modules take 3-9 hours depending on specialty
- Medication and competency exams required annually
- References not required for client clearance but required for per diem candidates
Summary
This is a 13-week travel ICU RN contract in Minnesota with night shifts and float responsibilities to SCU and ED. The role requires at least 1 year of ICU experience, ACLS and BLS certifications, and a Minnesota RN license (pending accepted). Candidates must meet extensive clinical skill requirements related to cardiac, neurological, respiratory, and IV therapy care. Background checks, immunizations, and compliance with fingerprinting and health screenings are mandatory. The facility is a Level 3 trauma acute care hospital using Epic for charting.
