Registered Nurse (Emergency Department) - Travel Assignment
Location: Meridian, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening and Night shifts
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP
Job Description
- Work in a Level IV Trauma Emergency Department with ongoing efforts to achieve Level III Trauma designation.
- Unit includes 45 beds (including trauma, resuscitation, cardiac, psych rooms).
- Patient volume averages about 170 patients per day.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4-5.
- Care for both pediatric and adult patients with high acuity cases including Stroke, STEMI, Trauma, and abdominal pain.
- Stabilize pediatric patients for transfer.
- Common medications used include Nicardipine, Propofol, Fentanyl, Norepinephrine, Nitro, Versed, Precedex.
- Support staff includes physicians, advanced practice providers, charge nurse, assistant nurse manager, and admin supervisor.
- Additional support from CNAs, EMTs, paramedics, patient sitters, respiratory therapists (RTs), and phlebotomy.
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7 managing equipment and treatments.
- RNs responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac monitors.
- Imaging (X-Ray, CT) available onsite with transport for non-critical patients.
- Lab draws performed by RNs, CNAs, and phlebotomy.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Idaho
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Minimum 2.5 years of Emergency Department nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS, ENPC
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Shifts vary but are 12 hours long, examples include 0730-2000, 1330-0200, 1530-0400, 1930-0800.
- No block scheduling; shift assignments based on departmental needs.
- Minimum of 2 weekends (4 weekend days) required every 6 weeks.
- Holiday shifts as needed.
- No call or standby requirements.
- Rare floating to nearby ER locations may be required.
- One shift of unit-specific orientation after hospital and electronic health record orientation.
- Dress code: professional and clean attire, no specific scrub color required.
Additional Information
- Facility has a 50-mile radius rule restricting candidates living within this distance.
- Separate triage area exists; travelers do not perform triage.
- Psych patients housed within ER with 1:1 sitters.
- Security is in-house 24/7 within the ER.
- Fast Track and vertical space available for rapid assessment.
- Charge nurse does not take patient assignments.
- CNA ratio approximately 1:5-9, assisting with EKGs, phlebotomy, and wound care (no irrigation).
- Providers handle splinting procedures.
This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses seeking a travel assignment in a busy, high-acuity emergency department with a strong trauma focus.
