Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) - Travel Assignment
Location: Meridian, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Details
- Unit: Medical Surgical, 5th Floor
- Beds: 42
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5, occasionally 1:6
- Charge Nurse present on each shift (rarely takes patients)
- Additional support: ADT nurse on day shift for admits, discharges, and tasking
- Patient Care Techs/Nurse Aides: Yes, ratio 1:8
- Telemetry/Monitor Techs: Virtual tele techs; RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- RT Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP (managed by RT), high flow oxygen
Patient Population / Common Diagnoses
- Orthopedic: Total joint replacements, hip fractures, spine surgeries (lumbar and cervical)
- Urology procedures including continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- General surgeries: cholecystectomies, bowel resections, complicated mastectomies
- Gynecology overflow: total hysterectomies
- Medical overflow: COPD, sepsis, infections, some behavioral health patients
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Idaho
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- BLS Certification
- EKG Certification
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Willingness to take students and precept new travelers
Clinical Responsibilities
- No requirement to titrate drips
- Common drips on unit: heparin, PCAs, morphine drips
- Floating: May float between MedSurg 5 and MedSurg 6, as well as similar units within approximately 8 miles (including ER for holds or 1:1 assignments)
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation: 3 days general orientation including EPIC training and educator meeting, plus 2 shifts on unit with a preceptor
- Scheduling: 12-hour night shifts, scheduled by unit scheduler (no block scheduling)
- Weekend Requirement: 5 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
- Holiday Requirement: As needed
- Call/Standby: None

- Dress Code: Any clean, professional scrub color
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address verification before proceeding with profile review
This position offers a diverse patient population and a supportive team environment with opportunities to precept and mentor. Night shift nurses will work 12-hour shifts with a consistent schedule and a manageable nurse-to-patient ratio.
