Description

Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Patient Ratio: 4:1
Unit Details:

  • Average daily census: 30 patients
  • Beds/rooms: 32
  • Floating required throughout the Oncology department as needed
  • Auto stem cell transplants performed on unit

Job Description

  • Provide care in Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Oncology unit
  • Administer chemotherapy and manage oncology patients
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required (must pass Relias EKG exam)
  • Accessing/managing ports, central line and PICC line care, central line blood draws
  • Administration of blood and blood products
  • Starting and maintaining IVs
  • Administer antibiotics and antiemetics
  • Foley catheter insertion and management
  • Follow isolation precautions
  • Telemetry interpretation and monitoring
  • Every other weekend required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Accessing and managing ports
  • Central line blood draws
  • Central line and implanted line care
  • PICC line care
  • Foley catheter insertion and management
  • Telemetry interpretation

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license) required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months of start, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri) required
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including full drug panel, must remain valid throughout assignment
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (no exemption for Bone Marrow Transplant unit)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination (no exemptions for neonatal or bone marrow transplant units)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and orientation modules must be completed prior to start
  • Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams required within 1 year of start

  • Facility uses EPIC for charting
  • Magnet & Teaching hospital, Level I Trauma Center
  • Parking available with monthly fees; no charge for straight night shifts parking in employee lots
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
