ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Saint Louis, Missouri
Position Overview
- Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
- Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 7:30)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Unit Details:
- Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Units
- Care for patients with respiratory failure, ARDS, acute chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, stroke, cardiac arrest, DKA, multi-organ failure, sepsis
- Pre/post-op cardiac, thoracic, abdominal surgeries
- Medicine and neuro-medicine overflow
- Pre/post-transplant care
- End of life and organ donation care
- Special Equipment Used:
- IV pumps/titration, CRRT/dialysis, ventilators/BiPAP
- Hemodynamic/invasive monitoring (e.g., Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz)
- Defibrillator/crash cart
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficient in management of dysrhythmias
- Skilled in Central Venous Pressure (CVP) monitoring
- Experienced with Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
- Competent in management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Knowledgeable in chronic and acute renal failure management
- Experienced in PICC line management
- Skilled in CVA (stroke) and acute stroke management
- Proficient in care of ventilated patients and ventilator management
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- State-specific searches and highway patrol checks for Missouri
- Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab units (not applicable here)
- Education Verification: Highest nursing education must be verified before start
- Competency Exams:
- Unit-specific competency exam (annual update)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (annual update)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test (N95) annually, must be able to shave if facial hair interferes
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tdap (or declination where allowed)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Drug screening within 1 year, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Facility-Specific Documents:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement (annual)
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire (annual)
- Confidentiality Form (annual)
- Regulatory Compliance Education and Quiz (annual, 80% passing score)
- Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code Policies acknowledgment prior to start
- Orientation modules completion required (approx. 16 hours) before start
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Vehicle registration form if working day shifts (not applicable for night shift)
Additional Information
- References: Two professional references required; supervisors preferred within last year
- Performance Evaluations: May be requested after initial assignment but not required for extensions or per diem
- Scheduling: No block scheduling accommodations; weekend shifts every other weekend required
- Shift Cancellation: Cancelled shifts must be regular shift length
- Parking: Monthly parking passes available (contact facility Public Safety)
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift role in a high-acuity, Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital environment.
