ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Saint Louis, Missouri
Position Overview
- Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
- Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
- Schedule: Every other weekend required
- Floating: May float within ICU service line units
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending License: Accepted
- On-call: Not required
- Block Schedule Accommodation: Not available
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
Unit & Patient Population
- ICU with 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patient diagnoses include:
- Respiratory failure/ARDS
- Acute chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest
- Stroke
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Multi-organ failure
- Sepsis
- Unit types:
- Medical and Surgical ICU (including cardiac, thoracic, abdominal surgeries)
- Neuro-medicine overflow
- Pre- and post-transplant care
- End of life and organ donation care
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Management of dysrhythmias
- Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Central Venous Pressure (CVP) monitoring
- Pulmonary Artery Line / Swan Ganz monitoring
- Management of chronic and acute renal failure
- Arterial line management
- Central line care and management
- PICC line management
- Continuous IV sedation
- Titration of vasoactive drips
- CVA/Acute Stroke management
Licensure & Compliance
- License: Registered Nurse license valid in Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
- Primary Source Verification: Required via NURSYS for Missouri licenses
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- State-specific searches and registries as applicable
- Drug Testing: Required within 1 year of start, must include full panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test (N95 respirator) annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tdap (or declination where allowed)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sep-Apr)
- Additional Facility Requirements:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement, Confidentiality Form, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy signed prior to start
- Regulatory Compliance Education and Orientation Modules completed annually via online platform
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
Competency & Testing
- Unit-specific competency exams required annually
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia or equivalent)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Skills checklist specific to unit required within 1 year of start
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded
- Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for extensions or per diem
Additional Notes
- Must be able to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
- No on-call requirement
- Must comply with all facility-specific policies and annual renewals of certifications and trainings
- Must be willing to float within ICU service line as needed
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift travel assignment in a Level I Trauma, Magnet, and Teaching hospital setting.
