ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes, 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
  • Floating: May float within ICU service line to other medical-surgical areas
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted; home address must be at least 75 miles from facility

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver's license)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
  • Primary source verification of professional nursing license required (Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunization and health requirements:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (with exceptions for Bone Marrow Transplant Unit)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
    • Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella immunity or vaccination/declination (with exceptions for NICU, special care nursery, newborn nursery, and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - Apr 1)

  • Parking: Monthly parking passes available; no charge for straight night shifts in employee parking
  • Orientation parking: Laclede Garage ($15 charge, not reimbursed)
  • Badge photo required within 6 months of start date (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)
  • Mandatory facility-specific documents include HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and regulatory compliance education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
  • Orientation modules (~16 hours) required for all RNs, completed through online platform; returning candidates may be exempt if completed in current calendar year

Additional Requirements

  • Must adhere to facility policies including hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies
  • References: Two professional references required; supervisors within last year preferred
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Competency exams required annually, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency
  • No on-call requirement
  • Return to office (RTO) restrictions: no more than 7 days off per 13-week contract
