Registered Nurse – Interventional Radiology (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work in Interventional Radiology alongside IR attendings, IR fellows, and radiology residents (resident coverage 24/7).
  • Shift: Day shift, 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM (12-hour shifts), 3 shifts per week (Sat, Sun, Mon or Fri, Sat, Sun rotation).
  • Overnight call rotation required.
  • Float within the unit as needed.
  • Every other weekend coverage required.
  • Average daily census: 5-6 patients per room.
  • Staffing ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients.
  • Must be able to handle workload independently and be competent to start immediately.
  • No first-time travelers accepted.
  • Epic electronic health record experience required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Interventional Radiology experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Circulator experience in Interventional Radiology.
  • Experience with conscious sedation administration.
  • Telemetry monitoring experience.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with infants and pediatrics.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification.
  • NIH certification.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
  • Level 1 trauma experience.
  • Scrub experience.
  • Neuro IR experience.
  • ICU, Emergency Department, or Telemetry Step-Down experience.

Important Job Requirements

  • Must participate in an Emergency Team if assigned during emergency events, which may require staying at the facility until the event passes or serving on a relief team.
  • Call and float responsibilities within the unit are mandatory.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Sex offender search required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
  • Education verification of highest level completed.
  • License verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start, initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance.
  • Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
  • Fit mask testing within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series.
    • Hepatitis B – positive surface antibody/IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer.
    • Varicella – positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series.
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria) required for certain units (ED, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, NICU).
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually; if positive, additional documentation required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).

Documentation Requirements

  • Current/valid driver’s license or government photo ID (color copy).
  • Full-color passport-style photo for badge (taken within last 6 months).
  • Resume/application with 7 years of employment history and explanation for gaps.
  • Skills checklist updated annually.
