Registered Nurse (CVOR) - Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:15 - 18:45)
  • Shift Type: Day shift
  • Call Requirement: Weekend on-call per policy; 3-4 weekday and 1-2 weekend call shifts per 6-week schedule (may vary by unit needs)
  • Floating: May float within service line as needed
  • Block schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (home must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending license accepted
  • Maximum return-to-office restriction: 7 days

Unit & Specialty Information

  • Specialty: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
  • Scrub and circulate experience required for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular cases
  • Cases include cardiac, thoracic, vascular (open and endovascular), transplant (liver, kidney, pancreas), and Whipple (pancreatic procedures)
  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level 1 Trauma, Teaching hospital
  • Charting system: EPIC

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, with CVOR experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Scrub experience for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver's license)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, education verification, and international searches if applicable
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri) required
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Facility-specific documents required prior to start:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
    • Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
    • Fingernail Policy acknowledgment
    • Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
    • Orientation modules (approximately 16 hours, completed via online platform)
    • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)

Additional Requirements

  • Skills checklist specific to unit required within 1 year of start
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required and must be updated annually
  • References: Two professional references required; supervisors within last year preferred
  • Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review
  • On-call shifts and holiday coverage as needed, scheduled in advance

Notes

  • Parking is available with monthly passes at various rates; no reimbursement for parking fees
  • Candidates working straight night shifts have free employee parking
  • Orientation parking requires a fee and specific instructions
  • Floating within the service line may be required to meet unit needs

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with strong scrub and circulate skills in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries, who are comfortable with on-call responsibilities and working in a Level 1 trauma teaching hospital environment.
