Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with mechanical ventilation experience required.
- Patient population includes Pulmonary Step Down Unit patients with mechanical ventilation and tracheostomy care.
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- Floating within scope of practice may be required to meet facility needs.
- First-time travel nurses accepted.
- Pending license accepted but must be active prior to start date.
- Guaranteed hours.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut.
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in ICU (Intensive Care Unit), telemetry, mechanical ventilation, and tracheostomy care.
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Facility & Work Environment
- Short Term Acute Care facility with Level I Trauma Center designation.
- Total staffed beds: 1,567.
- Electronic health record system: Epic.
- Parking cost: $125/month.
Additional Notes
- On-call is not required.
- Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval.
- Candidates must provide photo ID matching legal name on first day.
- Foreign-educated candidates must provide foreign equivalency education evaluation and diploma.
- Pending licenses must be active before start date.
- Various background checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG required within 30 days of start.
- Candidates must complete all required training modules and attestations prior to or during orientation.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with PCU and ventilator care skills seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity acute care setting with a structured night shift schedule.
