Operating Room Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each per week (start times between 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM as needed)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Average Daily Census: 20-28 patients
- Number of Operating Rooms: 17
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call Requirement: Yes, after shift until 6:30 AM on weekends; response time within 45 minutes. Typically 5-6 call shifts in a 6-week period.
- Floating: May float within scope of skill set to meet facility needs
- Local Radius Rule: Candidates must be outside a 75-mile radius (locals not accepted)
- Pending License Accepted: Yes
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience in specialty
- First-time travelers accepted only if experienced in Neuro, Spine, or ENT specialties
- Extensive experience required in Hepatobiliary, Whipple procedures, and Abdominal Organ transplant
- Proficiency in complex Spine, ENT, Neuro, and intra-abdominal transplant surgeries
- Must be able to work after-call shifts with up to 8 hours rest time provided if called after midnight
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse license valid in Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) – check unit-specific requirements
- Primary source verification of professional license required (NURSYS verification for Missouri licenses)
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel of substances
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Tdap vaccine or declination (required every 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Sept 30 - Apr 1)
- Facility-specific compliance documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene policy, dress code policy, and others must be completed prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year)
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
- Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams required and must be updated annually
- On-call shifts may require working additional hours for breaks or shift relief
- Scrubs and parking arrangements provided; parking fees apply for day shifts (no charge for straight night shifts)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in transplant surgeries
