Registered Nurse - PACU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 8 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Day shift, 4x10 hours (10:00 AM - 8:30 PM)
• Hours per week: 40
• Weekend call shifts: 2 weekend call shifts per month (part of 4 total call shifts including 2 weeknights)
• Unit accepts first-time travelers
• Local candidates must live more than 75 miles away

Unit & Skills

• Unit includes Phase I PACU, Phase II Recovery, Endoscopy/Laparoscopic, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Orthopedics/Spine, Orthopedics/Total Joints
• Required RN skills: competency in phlebotomy and IV placement
• Facility type: Short term acute care
• Charting system: Epic
• Scrubs provided (color: teal)

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Minimum 1 year of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, with recent experience within the last year
• Certifications (AHA approved):

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Education: Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

• Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
• Fit mask test (within 1 year, updated annually)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire annually
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (documentation deadline December 3)
• Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not required annually)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Documentation

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check required within 3 months of start (including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
• Foreign education equivalency evaluation required if applicable
• Education verification from primary source required (no hard copy degrees accepted)
• Employment application and work history verification required
• References: 2 references within 3 years (required for Aya candidates)
• Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and attestation forms required

Additional Notes

• NIH Stroke Certification required for all RNs except birthing units and OR (to be updated annually)
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
• Facility will provide login credentials for mandatory online modules prior to start

This position offers a travel/contract opportunity for an experienced RN with PACU skills, requiring strong clinical competencies, certifications, and compliance with health and background screening protocols.
