Pediatric ER Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Newark, New Jersey
Job Details
- Position: Pediatric ER Registered Nurse
- Location: Newark, New Jersey
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00 to 7:30)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Schedule: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5+ (to be confirmed with traveler)
- Unit Info: Pediatric ED is separate from Main ED; may care for holding patients; possible float to PICU and Pediatrics
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum 1.5 years of Pediatric ER (Emergency Room) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- IV Certification
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license (must be provided within 48 hours of signing)
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Two professional references within the last 2 years (at least one managerial)
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start (including alias and multi-level searches)
- Drug screen (10-panel urine test) within 30 days of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing (mandatory before start)
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption with masking requirements
- Annual completion of OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission training
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety manuals
- Pass required competency exams (medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy/infusion) within 72 hours of signing; failure after 3 attempts results in cancellation
- Color blindness testing within the last year if job tasks require color discrimination
- Skills checklist updated annually

- Scrub color: Navy blue
- Floating to PICU and Pediatrics units possible
- Facility requires completion of floating policy for every new assignment or site transfer
- Candidates switching between sites with less than 30-day gap may have some documentation accepted from prior assignment
- Some certifications and CEUs (Continuing Education Units) must be current and may require renewal confirmation if expiring near start date
- Facility-specific training such as Iron Temple online modules required for clearance (MAB certification)
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific health and safety protocols
