Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location
- New Haven, Connecticut
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 3 shifts per week (3x12 hours)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Hours per week: 36
- Must float between two nearby campuses (within 1 block, connected by shuttle)
- No self-scheduling or special scheduling accommodations; schedules assigned based on unit staffing needs
- Weekend work required every other weekend
- On-call: Not required

Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Connecticut
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS
- Experience working with adult patients
Job Requirements
- Must be able to float between two campuses
- Weekend work every other weekend is mandatory
- No block scheduling or special schedule requests accommodated
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid driver’s license or state ID with photo matching legal name
- 7-year criminal background check (including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, federal checks) within 12 months, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Verification of highest level of education required
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation as applicable
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination), Tdap (highly preferred for pediatric specialties)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not required
Additional Training and Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
- Color blind testing (minimum 80% score) required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024
- Various facility-specific training modules and attestations (e.g., Language Services, CAUTI Education, Suicide Risk Assessment, Mobile Heartbeat Alarm, Stroke Education, CLABSI Prevention, Pressure Injury Prevention, Patient Transportation with Oxygen, Pyxis MedStation, Baxter Pump Interoperability, Patient Bedside Rounding, Ventricular Assist Device Awareness, Blood Administration, New Employee Orientation, 21st Century Cures Act, Fire Safety, Chaperone Policy)
- EPIC system testing or training may be required depending on prior experience and unit assignment
References and Work History
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for ICU assignments; charge nurse references not accepted
- 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days required
- Verification of last 7 years of employment required (attestations not accepted)
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech roles (not applicable for RRT)
Special Notes
- No self-scheduling or special scheduling accommodations allowed
- Must confirm all requested time off (RTO) is final before offer acceptance; no additional RTO will be approved afterward
- Candidates will be asked about attendance, punctuality, experience with therapist-led protocols, and experience with Hamilton ventilators during screening
