Job Opportunity: Cardio Thoracic ICU Registered Nurse

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Cardio Thoracic ICU (CTICU)
  • Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 48
  • Patient Ratio: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to other high-volume cardiac ICUs
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes
  • High Acuity: This is a high acuity cardiac ICU requiring proficiency with Swan-Ganz monitoring

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 3 years of Cardio Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Proficiency with Swan-Ganz monitoring
  • Certifications:
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Required within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months of start and must be updated annually; candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen required within 12 months of start
  • Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (September 1 - March 31) with vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not allowed)
  • COVID Vaccination: Initial series preferred

Training and Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of multiple mandatory training modules and attestations, including but not limited to:

    • Language Services Training
    • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
    • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (exemptions apply)
    • Stroke Education (exemptions apply)
    • CLABSI Prevention Training
    • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
    • Pyxis ES MedStation Training
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
    • Patient Bedside Rounding (exemptions apply)
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (exemptions apply)
    • Blood Administration Module (annual update required; exemptions apply)
    • New Employee Orientation Module
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
    • Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (effective 5/31/2024)
  • EPIC Charting System: Experience preferred; optional EPIC testing available prior to orientation


Additional Notes

  • On-Call: Not required
  • Schedule Flexibility: Block scheduling not accommodated
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
  • Documentation: Must provide photo ID matching legal name on first day
  • Foreign Educated Nurses: Foreign equivalency education evaluation and diploma required
  • Radiation Exposure Attestation: Required if applicable to prior assignments

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level I Trauma Center, short-term acute care facility with a large staffed bed capacity. The role demands a highly skilled and experienced RN with cardiac ICU expertise and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
