Job Opportunity: PACU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Allentown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (10:00 AM – 8:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 40 hours


Job Description

  • Requires a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
  • Candidates should have ICU background and/or strong Emergency Room (ER) experience.
  • Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience is preferred.
  • Shift assignments may vary depending on department needs.
  • Weekend work may be required.
  • No on-call duties.
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania
  • Minimum 2 years of Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nursing
  • Experience in Emergency Department (ED) nursing

Background and Screening Requirements

  • Comprehensive background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including:
    • SSN Trace
    • County, State, Nationwide Criminal Search
    • Sex Offender Search
    • PA PATCH (Pennsylvania State Police Search)
    • DMV check if driving is essential
    • Education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire.
  • Pennsylvania Department of Human Services fingerprint clearance required within 90 days of start.
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search required within 90 days of start.
  • Pennsylvania Medicheck Search required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification for highest level of education related to specialty.
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (9-panel without THC also acceptable).
  • Physical exam within 2 months of start.
  • Fit test for respirator use required (not for non-clinical remote candidates).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per guidelines.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series.
    • Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer or completed vaccine series (declinations not accepted).
    • COVID-19 vaccination or signed declination with facility-specific form.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use starting 04/07/2025.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Minimum of 2 professional references from employment within 12 months of start.
  • Complete employment application including 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps over 90 days.
  • Photo for badge (for new candidates starting 3/31/2025 and later): recent, forward-facing, color photo with solid background.
  • Facility-specific affidavits and declination forms as applicable.
  • Signed acknowledgment of pass/fail testing and safety manuals.
  • Chain of custody form required if drug screen is dilute and observed drug screen is approved.

Additional Notes

  • Requests for time off (RTO) must be approved by the facility and included with submission.
  • Local pay rate is $5 less than standard (pay details omitted as per instructions).
  • Instant background searches are not acceptable; all checks must be fully completed for clearance.
  • Fingerprints may be completed out-of-state but candidate pays any associated fees.
  • Candidates must comply with all facility and state-specific requirements for clearance and credentialing.
