Registered Nurse - CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 4x10 hour shifts, 6:15 AM to 4:45 PM (day shift)
  • Weekend Requirement: On-call per policy; approximately 3-4 weekday and 1-2 weekend call shifts per 6-week schedule, variable based on unit needs
  • Floating: May float within service line as needed
  • Block scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (home must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending license accepted
  • Maximum return-to-office (RTO) restriction: No more than 7 days

Role Requirements

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • CVOR experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
  • Scrub and circulate experience specifically for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular cases
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing required

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., TNCC, PALS, NRP) — verify per unit assignment
  • Competency exams: Unit-specific competency exams and Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required and must be updated annually

Licensure

  • Active RN license in Missouri (pending licenses accepted)
  • Primary source verification required (NURSYS for Missouri licenses)

Experience & References

  • Two professional references required (supervisors within the last year preferred)
  • RNFAs require additional references submitted directly to the facility

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • TB: Two negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption required
    • Tdap vaccine or declination required (with exceptions for certain units)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - Apr 1)
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Additional health screenings and questionnaires (e.g., latex allergy, hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code policies) must be reviewed and signed prior to start

Background Checks & Documentation

  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri Highway Patrol, Family Care Safety Registry, Illinois exclusions if applicable)
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, regulatory compliance education, and orientation modules must be completed and updated annually

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with strong scrub and circulate skills in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries, who are comfortable with on-call responsibilities and working in a Level 1 trauma environment.
