Description

Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions)


Position Details

  • Specialty: Labor and Delivery (L&D)
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Weekly Hours: 36 hours (also options for 40 or 48 hours/week contracts)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Float: Yes, within scope to antepartum and postpartum units
  • Block scheduling: Not guaranteed
  • Weekend Requirements: No specific weekend requirements; scheduling flexibility limited
  • Locals: Not accepted within 100 miles radius
  • Pending New Mexico nursing license accepted at time of submission
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Absences longer than 7 days require approval
  • Overtime: Applies after 48 hours worked (effective 10/30/2025)
  • Break Policy: 6-month break required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of travel work

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of L&D nursing experience (higher experience requirement takes precedence)
  • Experience in a large L&D unit/facility required
  • Must have experience with 3rd and 4th stage postpartum care, baby nurse duties, and meconium deliveries
  • Circulate and fetal heart monitoring (FHM) skills required
  • Special procedures experience preferred: cerclage, version, cesarean section (C/S), postpartum tubal ligation (PPTL), external/internal fetal monitoring, artificial rupture of membranes (AROM), medically assisted deliveries, cesarean hysterectomy, neonatal palliative care, nitrous oxide use, massive transfusion protocol, malignant hyperthermia management

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC (American Red Cross), RQI not accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - RQI not accepted; must have certification upon submission or risk scheduling delays
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification recommended
  • Other certifications (e.g., PALS, TNCC, CPI, MOAB) may be required depending on unit assignment

Licensure

  • Active Registered Nurse license in New Mexico required (pending license accepted at submission)
  • Must bring original New Mexico license with 3D seal onsite for verification

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
  • Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (NM Department of Health clearance)
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable
  • Drug screen negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
  • Fit mask test required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation available if needed)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire required annually
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Flu vaccine required year-round (exemptions allowed with proper documentation)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required; history of disease not accepted for Varicella
    • Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer acceptable
  • COVID-19 vaccine: optional; facility reports vaccination status

Documentation & Testing

  • Employment application with at least 3 years of work history required
  • Two professional references within 3 years of hire required
  • Work history verification for 3 years required, including detailed verification information
  • Skills checklist required
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams required (minimum 80% passing score)
  • Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required with minimum 80% score and 100% on lethal arrhythmia section; two attempts allowed before cancellation
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
  • Cerner training attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group (test-out option available)
  • Traveler compliance form must be completed and uploaded

  • Total Staffed Beds: 554
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Scrub Color: Purple scrubs provided
  • Parking: No fee

Additional Notes

  • No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications
  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers accepted
  • Candidates must have a valid non-local driver’s license (ID cards not accepted)
  • Location is not near public transportation; travel arrangements may require approval
  • New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks in length
  • 6-month break required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of travel work, whichever comes first

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Proficient in circulate skills
  • Proficient in fetal heart monitoring (FHM) skills
