ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
Guaranteed Hours: Yes
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
- Must have experience in a 20+ bed ICU
- Floating: May float within ICU service line to other medical-surgical areas
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Block scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local candidates not accepted (home must be at least 75 miles away)
- On-call: Not required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 1.5 years of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Clinical skills including paracentesis, bedside tracheostomy placement, and bronchoscopy
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri accepted; pending license accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- Must pass Relias EKG exam (Interpretation and Management of Dysrhythmias required)
- Other preferred certifications/skills: CRRT, Swan-Ganz catheter, inhaled and IV Flolan, CVVHD, proning, MTP-Level 1 Rapid Transfuser
Clinical Skills & Special Requirements
- Experience with pressor support, endotracheal tubes (ETT), tracheostomies, feeding tubes, chest tubes, wound care
- Sterile technique for line insertion, paracentesis, bedside trach placement, chest tubes, bronchoscopy, phlebotomy
- Must demonstrate competency in dysrhythmia/EKG interpretation
- Medication and unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) and Highway Patrol checks required and must be renewed as specified
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
- HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Facility-specific orientation modules (~16 hours) required unless completed in current calendar year
Documentation & Other Requirements
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Vehicle registration form required for day shift workers
- Various state-specific background and registry checks depending on assignment location
